There are three main types of rocks, which are igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. Igneous rock is formed from magma. Magma is a mixture of molten rock and gases. igneous rock that is formed underground is called intrusive rock. Igneous rock that is formed at the surface is called extrusive rock. The difference between both of these rocks is the texture. Sedimentary rocks are formed when other types of rocks get weathered and eroded. Then the sediment builds up into a sediment rock. A metamorphic rock forms when heat and pressure gets applied to any other type of rock. If the metamorphic rock melts, magma forms, and the cycle restarts. Forces within the earth cause rocks to change form. Rocks are composed of minerals.
